No Heat? Start Here.
No Heat propane troubleshooting? When the heat goes out, and especially during cold weather—it can be stressful. As your full-service provider for propane, HVAC, and propane-powered appliances, we’re here to help you quickly identify the issue and get you comfortable again.
Below is a simple no heat propane troubleshooting checklist to guide you before calling for service.
1
Check Whether All Propane Appliances Have Stopped Working
Before assuming there’s no heat due to a heating system failure, confirm whether the issue is isolated:
- Try a second propane appliance, such as a stove, fireplace, or water heater.
- If everything is out, the issue may be related to fuel supply, the tank, or a safety device.
- If only one appliance is out, the problem is likely with that specific unit (furnace, boiler, water heater, etc.).
This quick step helps our technicians diagnose the issue faster when you call.
Please note: As a full-service propane provider, we do not reimburse costs for third-party troubleshooting or diagnosis when a propane tank is found to be out of gas.
To help ensure the issue is properly identified and resolved efficiently, we strongly recommend contacting our office first. Our team is equipped to assist with troubleshooting and can help determine the cause before you engage a third-party appliance service company. This approach often saves time and avoids unnecessary expenses
2
Verify Your Propane Tank Level
If you have an on-site propane tank:
- Go to the tank dome lid and lift it open.
- Look for the round dial gauge. The gauge shows the percentage of propane remaining (0–80%).
- If your tank is 20% or lower, you may be out, or close to it.
How much propane is in my tank?
If the tank is empty or nearly empty, call us immediately to arrange a propane delivery and service.
3
Look for Obvious Signs of a Fuel or System Issue
These indicators may help you identify what’s going on:
- Regulator or tank appears iced over
- No sound from the furnace when calling for heat
- If only one appliance is out, the problem is likely with that specific unit (furnace, boiler, water heater, etc.).
- Pilot lights out (for older appliances)
- Error codes showing on heating equipment
- Gas odor — If you smell gas, leave the home immediately and call us from a safe location.
4
Check Your Thermostat
A simple thermostat issue can mimic a heating system failure.
- Ensure it’s set to HEAT.
- Check the temperature setting.
- If only one appliance is out, the problem is likely with that specific unit (furnace, boiler, water heater, etc.).
- Replace batteries if applicable
- Make sure no scheduled setback is overriding your heat setting.
